I have 3 computers in my house.

1) Home Built system with a SATA hard drive, I forget which Mothboard I'm using. Running XP Pro SP2
2) Home Built System unsure of components but I know it has a Yamaha CD-RW drive Running 2003 Server
3) Dell SC420 running 2003 Server

System 1 is stuck in a reboot cycle. I've seen this before with file system corruption. I created a UBCD4WIN Cd with no problems on the Dell syste.

I copied the iso to the home built system #2 because the Dell does not have a cd burner and successfully burned a CD.

When I boot system 1 it goes to a desktop but I'm unable to access any applications on the cd.

I know the image works because on the DELL it runs under QEMU

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Try opening My Computer, right clicking on the CD drive containing the UBCD4Win CD and select Autorun.

I can not do that I get no desktop icons. All I get is the background. Even the system information (drive size and type) doesn't show on the background.

I've had this happen before when the hard drive was corrupted. Try unplugging the hard drive then booting UBCD4WIN. If it boots without the hard drive plugged in then you'll need to boot your XP cd to the recovery console and run chkdsk on the drive.

Thats part of the problem.

The PC does not have a floppy drive and the XP CD I have does not have SATA drivers. I have a USB Floppy drive but it's locked at work now and I can't get it until Wed. I was hoping to use the UBCD4WIN to boot into an XP environment then run chkdsk.

I did this once before on a 2003 Server that had the same symptons and had no problems.

I'm not sure if it will help but try booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt then perform

chkdsk/f

What motherboard is this?? We need some hardware information in order to be able to help.

Asus A7V600 Mainboard.

It doesn't show any of the drive info when the CD boots. I get the desktop background with no system information and the tab on the lower left that has the applications never appears

Prior to finding your site I tried using just a plain BART cd and it boots but doesn't show the SATA drive at all.

I'm downloading the driver now. I'll see if I can do anything with it.

Hmm, it looked pretty simple....too simple. mellow.gifunsure.gif

Anyways, give this a shot:
http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads/asusviaraid.exe

It is a self extracting archive. It contains what I hope are the only 3 files needed for your device.
When you go to extract it you will need to direct it to your "C:\pebuilder313\drivers\scsiadapter" folder. When you extract it, it will create a folder there called "asusviaraid" that will contain 3 files.

Once you have done that, run PE Builder to create your ISO. Burn it, try to boot it, and keep your fingers crossed!! Also, please let us know if it works.

So I just use PEBUILDER directly and I do not run ubcd4win.exe ?

Do everything that you would normally do in order to create the project. Just make sure this "driver" download I created for you is extracted and in place before building.

If it would be easier and quicker for you just do a plain "vanilla" BPE build with the drivers in place. I'm not sure what you are comfortable with and how much experience you have with BPE.

I've use BPE to clean up some systems using the Spybot and Adaware Plugins and also copied data off a NTFS drive that would no longer boot any OS but that is the extent of it.

I do have my MCP, MCSE, and MCDST certificates but I know they mean nothing. Also I've used MS-DOS back from 3.2 and DR. DOS 5 and 6

Ok, well have you read the manual instructions on the site?? The "normal" way of building the project before the configuration tool (ubcd4win.exe) came around.

Basically, you take a "clean" BPE install. Delete the "plugin" folder and then extract the UBCD4Win255.exe to your "C:\pebuilder313" folder. Make sure when you double click to extract the UBCD4Win255.exe file you have it pointed to the proper folder. Then extract the "driver" download I created for you tonight following the instructions in the above post. Then run PE Builder to create the ISO. Burn it and you should be good to go.

Ok I made a basic BPE CD. I boot and get the GO button. When I click it and choose command prompt I get one which is good but I can not access C because I get a message The system cannot find the path spectified if I type c:

Sorry some personals issues took my time. Here is where it stands

Using the new CD I get a desktop and I am able to run applications from the CD but I still can not access the SATA drive.
