Full Version: Serial ATA hard drive compatibility??

I repair computers. When I've been using the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows on systems that have serial ATA hard drives, I notice they aren't recognized. File Explorer won't show the C partition. And on the desktop there won't be any information about it. Are there any utilities on the CD that support serial ATA hard drives?? Where I could see the files on the hard drive. Or do a diagnosis of it etc??

Thanks.

Have you ever tried including a "driver pack" with your build??

I checked my PEBuilder directory and I had the drivers folder in there. In there the NET folder had a date of 8/30/05 and the SCSIAdapter folder 7/30/05. So yes the drivers were on the CD.

Both times in the last week they were Dell computers with serial ATA hard drives. This one now is a Maxtor serial ATA hard drive. The other last week I can't remember.... I think it was a Seagate.

In my plugins, I didn't have the Dell plugin enabled...

Perhaps I'll try recreating the CD. But I know the latest drivers were included. If there is anything you want me to test just ask.

I think the Maxtor hard drive is bad..... took 30 minutes to get to the Windows XP recovery console smile.gifWorse yet, the 2 cd drives would NOT work with bootable CD's (Windows, UBCD etc). I hooked up a Sony CD-RW drive I carry in my inventory and it booted to cd's with no problems. Don't ya just love a Dell!!!!!!!!

Not a good sign when you type DIR at the C:\ in Recovery Console and it doesn't do anything lol.

During this past summer it did work with a Dell computer - with a Western Digitial serial ATA hard drive. That was with the previous version. Guess I'm looking at something that works with Maxtor serial ATA drives. At this point, this particular hard drive is in bad shape so that's probably why.

Anybody else having issues with serial ATA hard drives?

There were subfolders in the Net and SCSIAdapter folders right? What driver addon package did you download?

Yep the Net and SCSIAdapter directories had sub-folders. The size of the drivers folder was 57.8MB and Size on Disk 59.5MB. It was version 1.6 I had it stored on my external hard drive (13.3MB exe file).

I would have to redo the CD cause I made the UBCD with the drivers back in October when the last version came out.

UBCD doesn't pick up the Segate and Maxtor serial ATA hard drives.

Sometime I'll try remaking the UBCD. These people want their computer back tomorrow lol. What I'm having trouble with is that I have the Seagate serial ATA drive hooked up to port SATA-0 and the Maxtor to SATA-3. I want the Seagate to boot up first - by itself it does. But whenever I have their bad Maxtor drive plugged in at the same time it wants to boot first. Grrrrrr. There isn't any jumper settings involved. Since the Seagate is plugged into SATA-0 port it should boot first wall.gif

Ok.. first its not the hard drives that it is having trouble with... its a SATA controller issue... either these drivers aren't loaded, are not the correct ones for this system or are corrupted. Chances are its one of the first two. Anyway.. if the UBCD4Win drivers don't have the proper controler setup.. then it won't be able to see the drives.

Boot priority is normally provided in the CMOS/BIOS settings. Check these settings to see or set which SATA controller is set to boot first. Alternately... if you must switch where they are plugged into... ie 0<-->3

If you need to get it done right away you can try my Hardware Plugin Builder utility to create a plugin for your controller. Please let us know if it works for you and what specific controllers/mb's they are

Try building the CD with the BTS drivers, I have a Western Digital Raptor SATA HD as my primary and the CD regognises it with no problems.
