BartPE starts to boot from CD on my Vectra VL420 and stops after looking at the hardware and bringing up BartPE above the dashes on screen.
Is there a fix for this?

Most of the time this happens it is caused by a glitch in one of your processes to build the CD. BPE has either messed up when compiling your ISO image or your CD burning software messed up. This has happened occasionally to me, BPE will create the ISO image but then it will not boot on my system. I have just went through the build process again and burnt the new ISO to another CD. Although there could be some files messed up also. Are you trying to build the WinUBCD or did you customize it? If settings are set wrong in some of the files it will mess up your ISO build process and create a bad image. Please provide some more details so we can pinpoint your issue.

I am trying to build WinUBCD. Have not customized it. I'm using Burn4Free to burn the ISO to a CDRW. I am running Win 2000 Pro Service Pack 4 5.00.2195. I slipstreamed SP1 and then downloaded Autostream and rechecked this process which it confirmed as ok.
This is my system configuration.

Thanks for your quick response!!

I can't seem to recall but there are issues with running BPE on a Win2000 system. I'm kinda busy working on some nic driver plugins at the moment and I think it's consuming 100% of the (little) resources my brain has available. Stidy, Little, or Digi is on right now....hopefully they read this and can direct you to the post about it. Was the info in the FAQ, I think it is....please check that.

Thanks, I thought I read through the FAQ, but I'll look again. Good luck on your project. Just finished an ISA, Exchange Server 2003 install and still having problems getting e-mails from our ISP to reflect to our internal Exchnage Server.

I went back and read the FAQ again and I think this is my problem.
Q: Why can't Windows 2000 be used to build BartPE? Is there a technical reason for this?
A: Yes, the kernel does not support the "/minint" switch and therefor cannot boot from readonly media... Also the layout.inf does not contain some needed fields.
Is there a way to get around this?

It may be me getting muddled, but are you trying to build the WUBCD using your W2K CD and you've slipstreamed XP SP1 into Win2k?????
If so this won't work and there is no way round it, you must use WinXP with SP1 or higher slipstreamed into it. If you haven't got a copy of XP then I'm afraid you're going to have to upgrade and buy a copy of WinXP if you want to build the CD.

I am running Win 200 Pro, but I do have the XP Pro cd. I slipstreamed SP1 into XP PRo which I have copied onto my hard drive.
The question is, can I build WinUBCD in the Win 2000 Pro environment?

I think there has been on and off success with building any BartPE CD in Windows 2000, of which I don't know why. I did notice though that you burned it to a CD-RW. Have you tried just a plain CD-R? Some computers can't boot from a CD-RW so that may be a problem. Otherwise, just try rebuilding the CD following the instructions on the main page exactly.

I've found today some computers just have dodgy CD-roms which don't boot at all

barely 1yr drives, put any boot cd in and you get the bios telling you secondary master has failed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had to get a old 40x cdrom out to install XP, yet the cd-roms are working in windows???? Very odd.

I appreciate your help Win2000 Pro, but I finally upgraded to Win XP-Pro and burned the ISO with CDBURNERXP PRO 3 and everything worked great. Including the Winubcd and the Linux ubcd.
On my HP, I did have to reset the cmos on the motherboard before it would allow me to boot the UBCD cd.
Thanks again for your help!!!

Good, glad to hear you got it working. Too bad you had to upgrade to get it.
