HI, I WAS ABLE TO DOWNLOAD ALL THE FILES - WINUBCD, BART PEBUILDER, ETC. MY PROBLEM IS GETTING "4 ERRORS AND 0 WARNINGS" WHEN TRYING TO CREATE THE ISO FILE WITH BART PEBUILDER.
I COPIED OUT THIS ERRORS FROM THE LOG -

Error : SetupIterate Cabinet returned 13: The data is invalid
Error : filecopy () failed
Error : CreateFile "c:\pebldr\i386\inf\netmscli.inf returned error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

Error : fopen "c:\pebldr\i386\inf\netmscli.inf returned error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

Error : delLine () failed

Error : doInfAppend ()file= "c:\pebuilder3032\pebuilder.inf" failed

Error : CreateFile : "c:\pebldr\Programs\Nu2Menu\nu2menu.xml" returned error 2 : The system cannot find the File specified.

PLS HELP. AND MUST I BE USING WINDOWS XP TO CREATE THE FILE, BECAUSE I ACTUALLY LOGGED ON TO WINDOWS 2000 PRO.

We have a similar (if not the same) problem from someone else that we are working on right now. If you can give us any more information, that would be great.

To make the WinUBCD, yes, you need a Windows XP CD slipstreamed with SP1 (meaning that the CD has SP1 [Service Pack 1] integrated on it). Instructions on how to do this are on the main page (follow the navigation links on the left). After you create the XP SP1 CD and use it to create your WinUBCD, then everything should work fine, no matter if you use the CD to boot a computer that originally has Windows 2000 or XP.

For more information on where we are with this problem (somewhat), please go here: "Again It Happens"

Thank you :-)

YES, I DO HAVE MY WINDOWS XP CD (SP1). WHAT I MEAN IS MUST I BOOT MY PC WITH MS WINDOWS XP? IT JUST OCCUR TO ME THAT I STARTED MY PC INTO MS WIN2K PRO WHILE I WAS TRYING TO CREATE THE ISO FILE.

OR DO YOU SUGGEST I DOWNLOAD MS WIN XP SP1a TO TRY WITH.

THANK YOU
LittlBUGer
I'm kind of confused on what you mean. Do you mean you want to create the WinUBCD in Win 2K? That is possible and very easy. But you still need the Win XP SP1 CD when you run pebuilder.exe. It will ask for that CD as you create the WinUBCD.

Yet, to actually 'run' the WinUBCD when it's created, all you need to do is boot your computer with the WinUBCD in. First make sure though that you have your BIOS settings set to allow your computer to boot off of the CD drive (if you need help with this, please respond).

Is this what you meant and did this answer your question? I'm glad to help if it did but please respond if it didn't, as everyone has the right to a great WinUBCD and I'm here to help. :-)

YES, I BOOTED MY COMPUTER IN WIN2K. BUT I COULD NOT EVEN CREATE THE ISO IMAGE USING THE BART PE BUILDER. I GET THE ERROR MESSAGES THAT I POSTED HERE. AND I HAVE TRIED AND I TRIED MORE THAN TEN TIMES, I GET THE SAME ERROR MESSAGES.
I WILL APPRECIATE IF YOU CAN ASSIST ME. BECAUSE I HAVE DOWNLOADED AND ALREADY USING THE DOS VERSION OF UBCD AND FOUND IT OK.

Yes, as I said in my first post, we are working on this. But just in case, have you tried just making the original BartPE CD, with instructions here: BartPE. The WinUBCD uses his builder and whatnot, but not his default plugins or anything. I'm wondering if you could try making his, and if it works, then we know it's something with the arrangment of our files or something. If you need any help with this, please let me know. Thanks. :-)

YES, I HAVE BEEN USING BART BUILDER DELETING THE ORIGINAL PLUGINS THAT CAME WITH AND COPYING THE NEW PLUGINS. BUT I GET THOSE ERRORS. ANYWAY, I WILL TRY WITH THE PLUGINS AND SEE WHAT RESULT I WILL GET.

AND BY THE WAY IS THERE NO WAY I CAN GET THE ORIGINALLY CREATED ISO IMAGE SO I CAN BURN STRAIGHT AWAY USING MY NERO BURNER.

THANKS.

Well, as we would love to be able to just create a working ISO or CD image and give that out, there's many legal issues that we would then have to face with Microsoft and whatnot, as pebuilder requires the XP SP1 CD (a legally owned copy). Distributing an image that was created partially using that would be like pirating out copies of XP, in a sense. It's against Microsoft's policy and agreement. I'm sorry about this, since it is unfortunate.

Please look HERE for a little more information. Thanks. smile.gif

Thanks for covering for me the past few days Littl. Work has been so busy that I pretty much just come home and sleep. I didn't know the summer business would drain me so much. sad.gif I think you pretty much have this topic covered. I just don't understand why BPE doesn't want to work in W2K unsure.gif Balo if you could save the whole log for me and email it to me I would appreciate it so I can look it over and help you figure it out. Ben@windowsubcd.com The errors are directed at files that are created by BPE so I know it's an issue with your BPE installation. I'm sure you have already looked at my instructions for creating the CD but you may want to make sure that they are followed exactly. It may be possible you inadvertantly keep clicking something wrong. I'm talking about the output source directory, etc. I have these next two days off so I can focus more on this project. As for the download for an ISO file of this project, yeah that's the right answer. Unfortunatley we can't do that because of the various MS files that BPE needs to use to make this a bootable Windows CD.

AH HA!!! Possible solution found!!! Here's what I found on the main BartPE website:

Requirements to build:

The files from your Windows Installation CD-Rom.
Supported Windows versions are:

Windows XP Home Edition (must be slip streamed with Service Pack 1 or higher)
Windows XP Professional (must be slip streamed with Service Pack 1 or higher)
Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

PE Builder runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003 systems.
You must be able to record an ISO image to a CD-Rom or DVD media.

... Then number 10 on the FAQs...

Q: Why can't Windows 2000 be used to build BartPE? Is there a technical reason for this?
A: Yes, the kernel does not support the "/minint" switch and therefor cannot boot from readonly media... Also the layout.inf does not contain some needed fields.

...
So there you have it. For this reason (which is very unfortunate), you cannot use Windows 2000 to build the CD. I knew there was something strange. I bet this is the answer to that other guys problem. I'm sorry to those of you who only have Windows 2000 on your computers right now. If you can find a friend who has XP or if you want to try a trial of VMWare and install XP within 2000, you can try it there. Or, for those really tech-savvy (and for ONLY those, as it can really screw up things if done incorrectly), you can install XP beside 2000 and dual boot your system (though I wouldn't recommend doing that just for this CD).

If anyone has any more questions, please let us know. I hope this helps, at least to some degree. :-\

***!!!EDIT!!!***: I feel kind of stupid right now, but I'm thinking the FAQ number 10 above is pertaining to the Windows 2000 CD and not the actual OS to build the CD with. More on this later...

blink.gif Ooops I accidentally deleted your post asking people to post in the correct topics. Sorry Littl unsure.gif
LittlBUGer
Oh, no problem Ben. smile.gif I already posted a pinned topic in the UBCD section anyway, so that should be enough. wink.gif

Any luck or feedback with this yet? I hope it's working for you now. smile.gif

I get those exact same errors, any help would be appreciated.
LittlBUGer
And you tried the suggestions made earlier in this topic? Like using an XP SP1 CD to create the CD, and making sure when you do that that you have a temp folder on your root drive (usually C:) created and that the pebuilder3032 folder is your on your root drive, etc, etc.? I'm just wondering what you tried thus far. smile.gif
stidyup
Open the input.inf file in notepad and edit this line isofile=c:\temp\winubcd12.iso
change it to read isofile=c:\winubcd12.iso then no temp folder is needed.
