Hi everyone,what do you know I created the disc okay and it worked,I then decided to delete what I thought was excess files etc the trouble is when I boot up now I get NTLDR is missing press Ctl Alt Delete which I did but in the end I booted with the disc in.The thing is can I get my pc back without reinstalling windows.I opened up win explorer from the disc found the NTLDR and clicked on the restore button but it said I didnt have the authority to do this as I wasnt the administrator.Anyway I copied the file to my documents and copied it to Windows,System32 tried rebooting but no good.Am I trying the impossible or is there a way out .Thanks for your help.Bob in Verwood Dorset

If you deleted files from your windows installation while booted from the CD, you might be able to get thiem back as long as you have not written any new data to the drive. Tske a look at the programs located in START\PROGRAMS\FILE\RECOVERY & you will find the tools you need to restore deleted files.

There is another method to boot from HD when you get this message. There is a boot image available on the net which privides the ntldr & ntdetect files but uses boot.ini from the hdd. You can then simply copy the files to the root of your system drive.

Hi

This is similar to pmshah's idea

To bypass corrupted boot files on XP 2k or NT providing PC has floppy disk ( or CDROM)

If you have access to a working version of XP at the same or later service pack level (pro or home does not matter)

make a bootable floppy disk,

copy following files to floppy disk
CODE
Ntldr
Ntdetect.com

Boot.ini

BUT boot ini is not standard version but special version shown below

CODE
[boot loader]
timeout=20
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP, First harddisk, first partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="XP, First harddisk, second partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="XP, First harddisk, third partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="XP, First harddisk, fourth partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP, Second harddisk, first partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="XP, Second harddisk, second partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS="XP, Second harddisk, third partition" /sos
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="XP, Second harddisk, fourth partition" /sos
C:\="Previous Operating System on C:\"

This allows you to start Windows and make repairs as necessary

I used winimage to create a bootable disk image and included it in the BCDW menu of ubcd4win V3.00
