Full Version: Update Some Programs in v3.1

While browsing through the programs included in v3.0, I noticed that some of them are not the current versions. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I know that for at least FileZilla there was a buffer overflow security vulnerability that was fixed in an update in May. Perhaps before the next version goes out, you might want to comb through and update all of the tools (if possible). Just a little constructive criticism. Other than that, it looks like this release is really nice. Congrats to everyone who helped put it together!

Cheers

Please list all the other software which is out of date, if there is a V3.01 release it can be addressed then.

Thanks.

The complete focus on making sure ALL tools were updated for this release were lost because our focus was on the "core." Since things should be back to normal, that will hopefully not be an issue again. As long as the development team works harder to keep track of changes and I am able to keep the "master" copy of the project on my systems, I won't have to abandon changes I've made.

The updates are pretty much my area, as that is all I seem to have time for anymore. We try our best!!

Firefox needs updating.

If I recall, FF 1.5 had issues reported... have these been resolved?

Well, it's currently at 1.5.0.4 so several minor fixes have been released. I remember having issues with 1.5 on my systems, but lately it has been better. I think we could update it now.

Of course, priority should be given to any application subject to frequent security updates, such as the two applications (FireFox and FileZilla) previously mentioned.
...

This seems right at home in this topic as it also illustrates the fact that some software shouldn't be updated to the latest version.
I googled for an alternative freeware substitute, but came up with only shareware and commercial apps. One of the commercial apps I found does both .pst and .dbx.

Visiting the home page for DBXtract will reveal:

Version 5.01 Updated 07/22/04

Cost $ 5.00
....I think this might be confusing to some?...

Minor Correction to List of Tools

DBXtract (v. 4.5 is the freeware version)
The description column currently reads:
"Repairs PST files for Outlook express"

It would be more accurate to quote the author:
"DBXtract extracts all mail and news messages from individual dbx files."

or (my abbreviated suggestion):,
"Extracts Outlook Express .dbx files"

note:
Outlook uses .pst
Outlook Express uses .dbx
