It is evident that the launch of Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors has a very serious effect on the entire computer market. As we could already see, these processors set new performance records for high-end and mainstream PC systems. As a result, Intel earns the prestigious title of the today’s fastest x86 processors developer. Unfortunately, the AMD processors that used to be so popular among computer enthusiasts for quite some time, are being pushed back to the background turning into just a good solution for inexpensive systems. In order to retain the sales volumes, AMD undertook an unprecedented reduction of the pricing on their solutions. In other words, the new CPUs based on Intel Core microarchitecture stimulated rapid changes in the computer market.

No, AMD lowered prices as they have something new up their sleeves that'll come out and stomp Intel, again. smile.gif

It took Intel way too long to correct the architecture mistakes they made with the P4 chips. I think the graph shows it all. Now there are at least 3 chips by Intel that STOMP current AMD chips. I think they have finally fixed their mistakes and highly doubt that AMD will be able to reclaim the top spot anytime soon. Intel knows what they did wrong in the past and it cost them way too much market share.....with their behind the scenes plans with Mac now done, I think they have the time to focus on staying #1 for a long time!!

It depends. Those in know say Intel has a major problem coming up with quadcore as the AMD architecture is more geared to quad core and above and Intel had to completely start from scratch.

However as Intel is bringing forward it's quadcore there's 2 options.

AMD's quads will blast Intel out of the water so Intel has to get there first.

Intels has come up with a whole new architecture which kicks ass and AMD going to be left behind.
