QUOTE
Shares in NVIDIA Corporation surged nearly 8 percent today amid speculation that the graphics card company was about to be purchased by chip giant Intel. The stock rose $2.32 to hit $30.62 in afternoon trading on the NASDAQ exchange. An Intel spokeswoman declined to comment on the rumors, and there has been no statement from NVIDIA on the subject.

If the rumor is true, the announcement could come quickly. "There is speculation that Intel will make an acquisition announcement tonight," Bill Lefkowitz, an options strategist at vFinance Investments, told Reuters. However, not every analyst shares this belief. Some feel that NVIDIA's market cap of $10 billion would represent too high a price for Intel, which is currently on a cost-cutting spree.

Not good news if this happens!!!

Definitely not good news... I'd really, really, really hate to see any kind of hybrid between an Intel Graphics chip and an nVidia graphics chip, or worse, an Intel chipset and an nVidia chipset! Gasp! ohmy.gif

Since the whole ATI ordeal, I've had thoughts that this could happen. However to me it doesn't make sense? nVidia and ATI have both made chipsets for AMD, so it seems to me that everyone wants to support AMD because Intel is too expensive?

Intel now has the fastest chips available (again, finally!) so why would they have to follow the competition? They do fine creating chipsets and crappy onboard video stuff. That stuff isn't perfect, but wasting billions of dollars isn't worth it. They have the facilities, they are the leader.....do it on your own!!

Well, that an HP wants to get into the gaming arena just like Dell did. Dell first buys Alienware, now HP bought VoodooPC. It's a crazy year I tell you. blink.gif

It does seem a waste of money, although would Nvidia still do AMD chipsets if Intel took it over.

If it did happen surely the anti-trust people would have to get involved.

Maybe McAfee or Symantec may put in a bid. They just seem to buy up any company remotely related to security tongue.giftongue.gif
