Microsoft Service Pack Road Map

QUOTE
SP3 for Windows XP Home Edition is currently planned for 1H CY2008. This date is preliminary.

SP3 for Windows XP Professional is currently planned for 1H CY2008. This date is preliminary.

Yet another delay from MS, previously SP3 was due for release just after Vista. Is MS expecting a major patch headache with Vista?????

Well of course they pushed it back. They have to make room and time for all of the complaints people are going to give them from Vista. smile.gifThat and the endless amount of patches in the beginning, and then SP1 for Vista. Then, maybe, after SP1 is out and things calm down a bit, XP can get it's final SP. smile.gif

Does everyone really think there will be a lot of issues with Vista?? The constant paranoia is getting a bit annoying. To be honest with you I really do not recall any major or really even minor issues with XP? I bought it within a month of it being released and never had a problem with it. Although that was about 5 years ago so maybe I am forgetting something? But I would think I would remember if there was anything major.

The OS is a bit more complex and there are different things being added to it. However there is a lot more testing being done to Vista than XP. XP was never released as public betas and MS has to have more testers than they did over 5 years ago. I think the public betas should have helped MS with Vista quite a bit. We will see in January or whenever.

It's not necessarily just various OS problems, but exploits galore, people confused with the different versions (thinking they bought the right version but actually got something that wont work for them), and people getting angry over the system requirements saying that they should be able to run Aero Glass when they actually can't, the entire interface change is confusing and they can't figure out how to do something that was easy in XP, etc, etc. The same will be for Office 2007 since they moved away from all of the standard dropdown lists/menus to a ribbon, which should be prevalant through the most popular Office products, except Outlook. And that brings up another point. Though they changed some major interface things, they have yet to make it prevalant throughout all products. Now I can understand their reasoning behind that somewhat, many people will not and it will cause more confusion. You have to realize that the majority of the problems come from the majority of the population---computer illiterate ID10T's. :-\
