Hello I am a new user and I have just purchased the latest UBCD for windows. I have a laptop with windows XP Home .without any CDs. I was able to create a build and created a bootable DVD with a complete backup of my system. What I don't understand is how to use this bootable DVD to recover my system when needed.

I played around with the DVD and read everything I could.

Any help would be greatly appreciated rolleyes.gif

What did you use to create the backup of your system with... was it a program that is available on UBCD4Win? .. if so you would use the same program to restore with.

I used Bart PE Builder Ver. 3.1.10A And now that I have made this image onto the DVD which boots fine. The question is now what do I do with it.?

Bart PE Builder... or UBCD4Win which is a BartPE project... only create bootable CD's that have plugins for programs that can be used from the CD. Some of these programs will allow you to back up your hard drive... but they do not create a backup of your system... you must use a program to do that with.

If you purchased UBCD4Win from the UBCD4Win website ( not someone else or ebay... these don't count and if you did purchase from them.. you got ripped off )... then you have on the bootable CD that you created several programs that actually will allow you to create a backup of your system... the one I like the most is DriveImage XML... but you still need to learn to use whatever program you choose to use. The project will give you the tools you need... but you must learn how to use the tools.

I bought the Ultimate Boot For Windows 3.02 from here. So if I need to use one of the many backup programs on this disk...Then what is the purpose of Bart PE Builder? The program copied all the files from my HD and burned an image to a bootable DVD disk. So if this is not a backup then what is it.

I think you misunderstood what the disk is that you created... start from step 1 and read the home page here http://www.ubcd4win.com/

UBCD4Win ( which is built using BartPE ) , is a group of utilities that you can use to make repairs to your computer... some of the areas that it covers are antivirus utils, disk backup utils, repair utils, information utils and many many more... these utils can then be used to create backups... scan for virus or spyware ... repair corrupted files or disks ...

When you created the boot disk... it did not backup the computer... it only made the disk that you can boot your computer from to perform the above mentioned tasks and more in case of trouble etc. But you would need to perform these tasks after you built the CD.

I also suggest you read the FAQ's found here http://www.ubcd4win.com/faq.htm
