Thanks

As far as I know, you can't really edit the iso with a simple program as the program that creates the ISO is special and if it's edited and saved with another program, it gets screwed up. If you need to update the virus defs or something like that, there's an easy way located here: http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=320

UltraISO works well with PE discs. WinISO does NOT. I use UltraISO and it's "optimize" feature to further reduce the size of my PE build, though, of course, all it's features work when reconstructing a PE disc. It is a shareware product.

Are you sure DigiWiz? I haven't had much luck with anything, including UltraISO, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Anyway, if it works for you, great. It's also an awesome program in general. smile.gif

I am sure. I just updated the AntiVirus McAfee Stinger program as a test and works fine.

I simply:
  • opened my ISO with UltraISO
  • dragged & dropped the new Stinger onto the old Stinger
  • resaved using a different filename
  • everything works fine
Just because it CAN be done, doesn't mean I think it SHOULD be done that way - it is no more difficult to drag & drop Stinger from one folder to another and rebuild the ISO using mkisofs. Either way works - and I suppose there are situations when an good, working ISO editor has its advantages... as mentioned, I use mkisofs, and then often will use the OPTIMIZE function of UltraISO to squeeze out another 2MB of space (duplicate files) onto the miniCD.

I used to edit the iso to update stuff, but that tended to cause unexpected errors (mostly with McAfee Cleanboot...pickiest program I've ever tried to get to work) so now I just rebuild the whole thing w/ the modified mkisofs. Easy as pie.

From what I've read on the net you shouldn't edit ISO files, always rebuild them.

Perhaps DW is just a lucky bugger biggrin.gif

PE Builder USES mkisofs to build the ISO. You have the option to turn off "building files" and merely reconstruct the ISO - so the answer is no.
