Hello,

I work for a company that services computers. I am in charge of creating bartpe discs. I have latched onto using your wonderful product for awhile now. I am stuck right now. I am trying to add a dvd playing software such as powerdvd or windvd or something. I know that frodo made some powerdvd plugins. However, they weren't written to work with nu2menu. I would prefer to be able to use that ... as it is alot easier and that is what all my other plugins use ...

If anyone know of any plugin for a dvd playing software that I could use I would be very appreciative.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Not that I'm pointing any fingers saying SLACKER! or anything but I'm curious as to why/when you'll need DVD playing software on a PE disc that's used in a company that services computers? surrender.gif

I have a multiboot plugin for GeeXBOX which can play DVD's but it's designed for the current development build of UBCD4Win and really isn't compatible (out of the box) with the current UBCD4Win release (3.04).

Well when you service pcs and you have customers that foul up their software ... I use bartpe to scan for viruses ... and back up customer data. I would like to be able to test customer's dvds drives outside of windows so that I can rule out software problems as the cause for dvd playback issues.

That GeeXBOX ... program looks interesting ... that would accomplish the task I want if I can't find a solution to put something in BPE

Could I get that multiboot plugin from you if no one else has any other ideas?

If a DVD drive can read a data disk... then if there are issues within Windows with a video DVD it would be software based... ie a corrupted codec etc.

Well ... not if your booting ubcd4win off of a cd ... optical drives can fail to read dvds but read cds just fine.

Testing optical drives is a real pain in the butt to begin with. I have about 50+ optical drives at work that just sit there because it takes too long to test every aspect of a drive.
Trying to play a DVD in PE though.....is just too much.
I suggest with a drive:
1. Reads CD
2. Boots from CD
3. Writes CD
4. Reads DVD
5. Boots from DVD
6. Writes to DVD

That of course depends on what type of drive you are using and if you want to take the time testing the burning abilities. Remember also so test any burnt CD/DVD on another system to confirm it was burnt properly. I've seen it way too many times, disc says it's done....but then isn't readable on other systems.

I just think DVD software is overkill, you can find out without the hassle.
