Hey all, first I wanted to say thank you to everyone involved with this project. I found out about this web site and project while trying to zero out the harddrive on one of my computers. I can't find any programs to zero out my harddrive that will run on anything but a floppy (and I refuse to use one until I have to). I don't know for sure if a UBCD will help, but it's fun trying to find out. *there is no OS on this HD right now, it has been quick formated and I think some of the Windows files still on it are corrupted.

Anyway, I've been working through the instructions on this site and everything is working great until I get to the last step of using AutoStreamer 1.0. The program looks to me as if it may be hanging up at the very end. I'm at the point where it says it's "Cleaning up temporary files used..." and it kind of looks like it's done (there's a green check mark next to the step), but the buttons at the bottom of the window don't change. The only button I can choose says "Exit", all the other buttons are turned off.

I still tried to use Bart's PE builder just in case AutoStreamer allways looks like this when it's finished. What I did was hit exit on AutoStreamer and then start PE builder. When I got to the point that PE Builder wanted me to choose a "Path to Windows installation files:" I pointed it to my .iso file created by AutoStreamer.

At this point I click next and I get the following error:
The path you entered is invalid (file "C:\WINXPSP1_EN\i386\setup.bin" not found.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Ok, AutoStreamer is doing what it is supposed to do. When the "Exit" button is available then it is done with the process. Now BPE needs to read the files from an actual disc. You cannot direct it to the ISO file, it does not read them. You will need to burn that ISO file to a CD then run BPE with that CD in. Any more questions please feel free to post. If any part of the instructions on my site have confused you please let me know, I will make them easier to read and understand.

Or, you can extract the contents of the ISO to a folder on your HD and point pebuilder there. Either way will work. And if you do burn the ISO, make sure you burn ISO -> CD and not just burn it on a data CD like a file (I know that's confusing so please respond if you don't know what I mean). Also, if you want DOS programs to wipe your HD, there are several in the UBCD (meaning the 16-bit UBCD---the WinUBCD is the 32-bit version of which this site is dedicated to). You can combine both CDs on one CD using THIS GUIDE if you want to. smile.gif Then you have access to everything you need.

Thanks guys! I'll try these things after work tomorrow. I'll post to this forum with my outcome smile.gif

From within WinUBCD:

Programs | System Tools | Eraser

Reference: HERE

"Eraser is an advanced security tool (for Windows), which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns. The patterns used for overwriting are based on Peter Gutmann's paper "Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory" and they are selected to effectively remove magnetic remnants from the hard drive."

"Other methods include the one defined in the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual of the US Department of Defence and overwriting with pseudorandom data. You can also define your own overwriting methods."

You don't need to burn the ISO to CD that's just wasting a CD unless you want a CD copy.

You can either do one of the following.

Mount the ISO image in a virtual drive such as Daemon tools.

Or extract the ISO using winrar, not sure if any of the other compression programs will do this or not.

Mounting the ISO is very quick and easy it's how I build the CD at home.
