I am trying to use the UBCD4Win for Drive Image XML as well as other utils in the future. I have D830 Laptops (Dell) Which has SATA with AHCI drivers.

I burned a cd straight no config no nothing.

First error I get is when it asks me if I want to use network settings I say yes, i select perfectdhcp then it says
"This application has failed to start because Normaliz.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
I click ok on that message twice and then a third time finally it says I have no network devices installed.
I have a broadcom network interface card. There is also a wireless card installed(No idea on that one)

Another issue i have is GEOSHELL error stating "Unable to start shell DDE. Failed to obtain function shdocvw.118."

Figured I'd post these and see what the community / developers thought to help fix these or if its on my end Im sorry im a dunce.

Any help is appreciated before I build another CD image.

Edit I am using 3.06 the newest in the downloads.

Which version of Windows ( ie the source files ) are you building the project with?

Which Service Pack level is it at?

Did you copy the Windows CD to a folder on your hard drive ( like C:\XPCD ) as suggested on the How to Build page?

Is the Windows CD you have an OEM copy, if so what vender provided it?

Did you try to slipstream any other updates/hotfixes or make other changes to your source files, if so what?

No I did not try to slipstream or do any other update / hotfixes. I might be interested in doing so in the future. (Ive used *restricted project name, please email Ben for support* to make a slipstreamed cd. Worked nicely maybe I could use that for the win dir next time)

EDIT: I found a site to download the DLL file
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?normaliz

But am unsure of where to place it. I am assuming it should be in the WindowsXP install files folder C:\WinxpCD\$OEM$ ? maybe unsure

Geez... yet another Dell issue to look forward too. ...

Dell altered the disk and they slipstreamed additional stuff into it ( hence the $OEM$ folder you mentioned ) ... For any BartPE type of disk ( such as UBCD4Win ), do not add any additional updates to your source files. Since it sounds like Dell had already done that in your case, I'm not sure what to recommend to you. All I can suggest is try reading the FAQ's about Dell sources and perhaps do a forum search to see if you can find a similar situation

Aye, that sucks.. Don't think I have an actual win xp cd, just used the dell cd's.

The FAQ's weren't much help, but I'll play around with it and see if I can just stick the file in a few places and hope that works. Im not sure this will solve every problem but maybe it will lead down the right road.

Thanks for the help either way.. ( BTW you want one of these cd's? Im sure lots of people have them)

What I did was take the downloaded .dll file and stuck it in the /I386 Folder, then ran the dellregfix.cmd in the directory as well. Still get the error unfortunately sad.gif

Aww well, guess its time to find a windows xp sp2 cd thats normal.

For the AHCI and Broadcom I went to the UBCD4WIN folder to \drivers\Net\Broadcom and for Broadcom drivers (over wrote the previous drivers)
Then for AHCI I did
\drivers\net\intel and made a folder called AHCI and dropped the inf and other driver files in there.

I ran into some trouble adding AVG to the list of programs. It wanted files from my windows CD /i386/src/drv folder, that is not included in the Dell OEM CD. So a little at a loss for that just had to disable it sad.gif

When I boot the CD now I still get the GEOSHELL "Unable to start shell DDE. Failed to obtain function shdocvw.118." Maybe someone can point me in the right direction for this error? Files I need to put in the i386 folder I assume, but i have no idea what that error means..
