I used the Acronis 10 plugin from "Mustang's" and the completed build was 775MB wheras my other builds with earlier version of Acronis were only 550MB. I checked the Trure Image 10 plugin folder and it is 153MB. Is this normal? Does anyone know of a workaround for this issue?

Thanks

That's not right. I've used the BartPE plugin that Acronis provides with the product without issue before several times and I think it only adds maybe 10MB or something onto it. Can you post a link to this plugin you downloaded please? Thanks.

I don't know what version of TI you are using but I believe it is prior to 10 because Acronis only supports a plugin for version 8. Also, I am not aware of a "plugin that Acronis provides with the product", please elaborate.

The plugin I am using I downloaded from "Mustang's BartPE Plugins": http://www.mechrest.com/plugins/
I contacted him about the size of the plugin and he stated that it was normal and "wait until you see version 11!!"

BTW I am creating this boot CD with UBCD4WIN version 3.1.10a.

With True Image 10 Home, during the install, I specifically remember an option for it to install a BartPE plugin to your PC as well. I've used this on my UBCD4Win CD without fail. Though I'm not at home to prove to you exactly how it works, I'll do a little research online to see if I can find anything. smile.gif

FWI... There is no UBCD4Win v3.1.10a.... that is the builder version. The current release of UBCD4Win is v3.06 with a public beta release just done today of 3.10
JoeP
I am mistaken about the version, it is 3.06 and it is a196MB download. I am looking at the home page and all I see is 3.06 which I intend to download and install again. Maybe something went amiss during the install.

Regarding the install of version 10 and the Barts plugin, I must say I do not remember having that option, but I can reinstall it if need be. Also, I checked at the Acronis site and all I could find is support for a plugin for TI version 8.0.

Thanks for the information.

I've just seen a few reviews and the installation manual and they all mention that during the installation, you have the option to select the BartPe plugin. That would be your best bet to get a working one, as I did. smile.gif

I reinstalled True Image 10 and still did not "see" the option for the plugin until I chose the Custom install option which affored the option to install the Bart's plugin. Once the installation completed I discovered a folder named "BartPE" in C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome. Now the question I have is, what to do with that folder named "BartPE" ? With a name like that I'm assuming that I can't just drop it in the UBCD4Win Plugin folder. Any suggestions?

Thanks

You can just drop it in as far as I recall. The only problem is it will be in the Program list, not the disk sub-menu. You can edit the .xml file and put it where ever you want to. I renamed the BartPE folder to acronis and edited the .xml file to fit my menu structure. Here is my .xml file....

====================================================================

<!-- Nu2Menu entry -->
<NU2MENU>
<MENU ID="Programs">
<MITEM TYPE="POPUP" MENUID="Disk Tools">Disk Tools</MITEM>
</MENU>
<MENU ID="Disk Tools">
<MITEM TYPE="POPUP" MENUID="Backup">Backup and Cloning</MITEM>
</MENU>
<MENU ID="Backup">
<MITEM TYPE="ITEM" DISABLED="@Not(@FileExists(@GetProgramDrive()\Programs\Acronis\TrueImage.exe))" CMD="RUN" FUNC="@GetProgramDrive()\Programs\Acronis\TrueImage.exe">Acronis True Image 10</MITEM>
</MENU>
</NU2MENU>

=======================================================

Make sure to leave an empty line at the end.

Thanks for the advice...

I previously tried renaming that "BartPE" folder then dropped it into the UBCD4Win "plugin" folder. I then went to the "config" procedure but I got an error: "No configuration tool available". The xml file looks like this:

<!-- Nu2Menu entry -->
<NU2MENU>
<MENU ID="Storage">
<MITEM TYPE="ITEM" DISABLED="@Not(@FileExists(@GetProgramDrive()\Programs\Acronis\TrueImage.exe))" CMD="RUN" FUNC="@GetProgramDrive()\Programs\Acronis\TrueImage.exe">Acronis True Image</MITEM>
</MENU>
</NU2MENU>

Any ideas??

Thanks

No Config is needed. Here is my acronis.inf file just so it completes the set...

Just drop the folder in /plugin/disk/backup...

Thanks Piney...

I tried a build with the folder in c:\ubcd4win\plugins (I did not use the config procedure) but the program failed to show anywhere on the menu. It is on the CD but never got to the menu. So, I dropped the folder where you suggested and I am now creating another build. In the interim here is the INF file I have:

Sorry about not mentioning the 'custom install' option. That is what I always use by default so I guess I just assumed you would too. My fault. smile.gif
JoeP
Thanks LittleBUger and The Piney....I finally got it!!!

For the benefit of others who may find this post I thought I would chronicle my mis-steps.

First, the first plugin I tried from "Mustang's BartPe Plugins," when executed and built, somehow created a 153MB plugin which exploded the ISO beyond the capacity of a CD. The second mistake came when I did not have a Barts Plugin generated from the original installation of Acronis and when I tried installing the software again I did not know the I had to choose the "Custom" install option in order to get the plugin. Once I had the plugin I dropped it into the UBCD4Win plugin folder and attempted to run the "config" option in the build process which was not necessary. Upon completion of the build I did not find Acronis in any of the UBCD4Win menus and I just assumed that the XML file, which was in the Acronis supplied plugin, would add it somewhere in one of the menu's. Obviously, the XML required editing, which I did not have to do thanks to "The Piney" who posted his XML file.

So, all is well at this point but I would like to have a XML file which would list all of the other programs which do not show on the menus.

Thanks to you both for your time and effort.

just wanted to add that you can get this software free

the only catch is that you need a Maxtor or Seagate Hard disk in your system or as an external usb drive.

Only problem is that the drive is not always detected as Maxtor/Seagate. I have 2 Maxtor 300GB drives in RAID 1 setup and for some reason they are not detected correctly by the program. I also had a Maxtor 40GB drive in a USB 2.0 enclosure that was not detected, I had to install the 40GB drive as a slave on the PATA connection to get noticed.

I have Paragon HDM 8 from ComputerAct!ve, so I've just been using that instead, which seems to be working fine.
