The ones I've found I haven't been able to get to work with current version of Open Office.

Thanks

well since that is such a large plugin and there are great alternatives that are tiny in comparison, I see little need for working on a plugin for this software.

The main reason is that the plugin is version speciffic to each release of open office so you will need to either create a new plugin using the old one as a guide, OR try finding the older version of open office that matches the version your plugin was created for.

What version is the plugin you have looking for as a source?

Why not include as a added file the portable Open Office.org from Portableapps.com? It is a self contained app that requires no installation and was just updated yesterday to a newer version. It is what I use personally instead of the over head of making a plugin for it.

This sounds like the perfect answer and sounds like it should be easy, but it's not clear to me how you'd do this, could you please explain?

thanks very much.

The simplest way that also would not take up your boot CD space with all of the bloat of an application ( s ) , use a USB flash drive in conjunction with your boot CD. Make sure you have plugged it in before you boot up and then just navigate to whichever program you wish to run that is on the flash drive.

A slightly more complex method would be to create a simple plugin... but then you would end needing space on the CD/DVD for all of the files still.

The easiest way is to make a folder that you want included on the root of your CD. Then create another folder under that as the contents of the first folder will be directly on the root. Inside the second folder extract the OO.org into that. Add the first folder into the add extra files of the PE Builder and build your disk. It will automagically copy that folder onto the root of your folder.

Diagram time...

folder1

folder1 -> OpenOffice

extract OO.org portable to OpenOffice

Add folder1 to the Custom entry on the main PE Builder screen

Build disk.

On disk:

root of disk
|
|-> OpenOffice
|-> Programs
|-> etc. etc.

Only thing with doing it this way is that you have to navigate to the folder and execute the launcher every time... no menu entry. Unless you create a xml file and such for that.

But as rdsok mentioned, it would be best not to place it on your CD. Best practice for such a large beast is to make external to your disk such as placing on a HD or USB Key or such.

How large is the latest version?
Last time I looked at open office it was around 130mb which is a lot of space for a recovery cd, unless of course your already over the 700mb cd limit and are looking to fill up the rest of that DVD.

Yep, I'm well past the 700 mark and want all my tools on one DVD.

We've been installing DVD drives on our builds for 4 or 5 years so very few boxes left in the building that don't have DVD drives already.

Also, this disk when done is something I can give laptop users that they can slap in their laptop dvd drive and use in a pinch to actually do work if their hard drive or hd OS dies.

Thanks

The newest Open Office 2.3.1 Portable from PortableApps is 77.4MB before install and shows as just over 220MB extracted..

I would also suggest putting on a USB stick with the other Portable Apps and running from there...
