I would like to use the AVG v7.5 pluging which is included in UBCD4WIN V3.10 butcannot get it to work.

I have run the <CONFIG to update or reset> function in the plugin dialog, AVG v7.5.x shows as enabled in the plugin dialog and I have successfully built and burnt the CD.

When attempting to run AVG v7.5 the following occurs

(a) as window appears asking:
Do you wish to update AVG v7.5 before scanning?
Y or N :
(b) I respond by entering N
© Then another window appears showing the following:
Running an antivirus scan can result in needing a lot of drive
space if there are large archive files that need scanned or the
system is very infected and the files need quarantined. For those
reasons it is recommended to place the temporary and quarantined
files on the hard drive being scanned or your ram drive may fill
up quickly.

If you have files to recover that may be lost or deleted you may wish
to quit now, recover the files and then later return to perform the
virus scan.

Choose which drive to place AVG's temporary files on:

1) Create temporary files on C: drive.
2) Leave temporary files on C:\DOCUME~1\vfisher\LOCALS~1\Temp drive.

Q) Quit

Enter your selection :

(d) It does not seem to matter whether I select 1 or 2, the result is the same and I receive the following message:
Windows cannot find 'C:\DOCUME~1\<username>\LOCALS~1\Temp\AVG75\AVGW.EXE'.
Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and then try again. To start a search,
click the start button, and then click search.
NOTE! - I changed the actual username to <username> in the above message

(e) The only option I have in the above message box is to click an OK button and the AVG process closes down.

Can anyone tell me why this occurs and what I need to do to make this facility work?

Do not run either AVG nor AntiVir from you installed copy of Windows... they are only meant to be run when you have booted from the CD.

Thanks heaps - this resolved my problem.

Perhaps an enhancement would be to hide the options when running from the installed copy of Windows. If I can find time to figure out how to do that I may try to make the change.

They were suppose to be hidden and it wasn't caught in the Beta Testing phase. Originally the items were simply "Greyed" out but that seemed to cause a lot of confusion or a lot of questions... but two menu items were incorrectly done and on another one overlooked during the change to the hidden item.

Simply use:
CODE
<MITEM TYPE="ITEM" VISIBILITY="@FileExists(@GetWinDir()\setupldr.bin)

in place of the standard portion of code used in the nu2menu xml. This will achieve what you desire.

Thanks for your help. However, I am unsure how to imlement this change. The current code is:
CODE
<MITEM TYPE="ITEM" DISABLED="@Not(@FileExists(@GetProgramDrive()\programs\AVG75\avg7.cmd))" CMD="RUN" FUNC="@GetProgramDrive()\programs\AVG75\avg7.cmd">AVG v7.5</MITEM>

Which part do I replace?

I actually didn't provide the full code on purpose - hoping you'd play with it yourself, which is the best way to learn about plugin writing/development. The following should work, but I haven't tested it.

CODE
<MITEM TYPE="ITEM" VISIBILITY="@FileExists(@GetWinDir()\setupldr.bin)" CMD="RUN" FUNC="@GetProgramDrive()\programs\AVG75\avg7.cmd">AVG v7.5</MITEM>

The above code did not provide the required results. Here, for anybody who wants it, is my code which has been tested:
CODE
<MITEM TYPE="ITEM" VISIBILITY="@Shl(@NOT(@FileExists(@GetWinDir()\setupldr.bin)),'1')" CMD="RUN" FUNC="@GetProgramDrive()\programs\AVG75\avg7.cmd">AVG v7.5</MITEM>

The menu item
  • appears if UBCD4WIN was used to boot up
  • does not appear if run under the installed version of Windows
