Update instructions for V3.12

Finally a update that will work with the current version.

This bat file will automatically update AVG, Antivir and Kaspersky.

Please note that AVG update may require this process to be run twice initially so that AVG will update.

Updatetools contain the freeware ISO burner BurnCDCC which comes courteous of Terabyte Unlimited who specialise in partitioning, disk image backups, and boot manager software.



Updating the Anti-Virus and Spyware software on the UBCD4Win

The Anti Virus/Spyware software featured on this CD are constantly being updated with the latest definitions to detect new virus's/spyware. Unfortunately it isn't practical to keep updating the ubcd4win download files each time a new virus is found as this would mean producing a new download file several times each week if not daily, plus you would then have to download another huge file. Therefore it's simpler and easier if you keep the Anti Virus/spyware software up to date yourself and rebuild the ISO file as and when needed.

Here are the instructions on how to do it. If you've just downloaded the UBCD4Win see option 2 or 3.

This is important if you can't access the web whilst using UBCD4Win and update on the fly.

The Quickest Way

Option 1
This method requires that you have already run UBCD4WinBuilder and created a ISO file and left the BartPE folder (which was created by UBCD4WinBuilder) on the C drive (if this is your location) after UBCD4WinBuilder has finished creating the ISO. PLEASE NOTE this method will not work if the plugins themselves have been updated (ie changes to the inf/xml files etc...), you will NEED to do a full REBUILD using UBCD4WinBuilder if this happens.

Run ubcd4winupdater.bat found in this updatetools.zip this will update all the AV's and Spyware defs found in ubcd4win and build a new ISO in your working folder ie c:\ubcd4win\updater the ISO would be found here c:\ubcd4win\updated.iso Extract the zip file into your working ubcd4win folder, it should create a folder called updatetools, run the following bat file ubcd4winupdater.bat

Drag and drop your working folder by explorer or type it in. ie if your working folder is c:\download\ubcd4win then you would need to type this in or drag the folder from the left pane of explorer into the dos box it will then automatically add the location.

Once finished BURNCDCC will automatically open ready for you to burn the ISO image to CD. Simple, Easy and fast.

Option 2
Run Pluginupdater.bat this will download all the necessary updates and extract the appropriate files into the correct folders for you.

Again drag and drop your working folder into the cmd screen by explorer or type it in. ie if your working folder is c:\download\ubcd4win then you would need to type this in or drag the folder from the left pane of explorer into the dos box it will then automatically add the location.

After running the file you will need run UBCD4WinBuilder.exe and rebuild your ISO.

Option 3 is to build the entire ISO from scratch using UBCD4WinBuilder, after you have updated the plugins folder with the latest Anti-Virus/Spyware definitions or program updates. Click on the plugin button, and select AV AV personal <CONGIF- to update> then press the config button, the updates will then be downloaded for you. <CONGIF- to update> this needs to be done for all the plugins with this option scroll down until you have done them all.

Now simple run through ubcd4win build process with PEBuilder, and burn the ISO.

This is the slowest method but offers the user full control over what gets updated.

UpdatePiriformPlugin.bat
UpdatePiriformBartPE.bat

The above two files will update all of the Piriform tools within the UBCD4Win CCleaner, Rucuva and Defraggler.
UpdatePiriformPlugin.bat will update the plugin folder
UpdatePiriformBartPE.bat will update the necessary program folders within the bartpe folder.

Run the bartpe one before running ubcd4winupdater.bat

The updatetools folder needs to be in your working ubcd4win folder, if it's not it will not work.

I've finished updating the bat files.

AVG is now supported, however it will probably need to run twice to update if you've never updated it before.

The update process may take a very long time over a slow connection and may download in excess of 100mb so if you are a capped monthly limit I would advice using the update files sparingly.

As a new feature you can also update all the piriform tools, recuva, ccleaner, defraggler. This bat file uses a different download program so if you are behind a firewall you may have to give the program access to the internet.

The best way to use the bat file is to run it and have explorer running in a small window and simply drag and drop your working windows folder into the bat file.

Hit enter and everything should update.

Windows? Or the working \UBCD4Win\ directory?

Is my working directory so I would click on the V312 folder and drag that into the cmd prompt window or simply type D:\UBCD4Win\V312 when asked.

I've just tried the new updater for the first time.
Specifically, I used the Pluginupdater.bat file, and although I'm not a programmer, there do appear to be a couple of minor problems with the .bat file.
Line 15: if not exist %UBCD4Win% goto nonvalid
the "nonvalid" label does not exist in the .bat file

Line 19: AVG Update
tries to run something called "AVG" that doesn't exist
maybe there should have been a REM in front?

Line 61: Echo building UBCD4Win
does nothing since there are no following lines in the .bat file

I also noticed that the "nonvalid" label doesn't exist in ubcd4winupdater.bat either, but I haven't looked at anything else in that .bat file.

The last line isn't needed and is redundant.

Same with AVG Update that just needs deleting.

Again the nonvalid bit needs deleting.

I've modified the files a couple of times and clearly there are a few bits of left over from before that aren't needed.

Hello Stidyup

I've just followed the subject procedure for updating defs for V3.12. Everything appeared to go according to plan and I saw the ISO file slowly building up. I also saw a statement to the effect that an ISO image (presumably the updated one) had been created.

Unfortunately two things occurred differently to your instructions however.

1/ I could not find the updated ISO file where you said it would be and a file search could not find it either.

2/ BurnCDCC did not open automatically

Can you please suggest what may have gone wrong.

I was in fact trying to update definitions for version 3.2. Don't know if this would cause the updater not to work.

I have modified the batch files to update my 3.2 installation of ubcd4win. I run the updates every night. I only test about once a week, so far so good, except for spybot getting wininit.ini errors.

To automate AVG updates, I copied the update script to CONFIG_AVG_75A.cmd and added 1 line, see below;

AVG v7.5 is no longer supported by Grisoft (AVG) as of 2/28/2009. Those update links that point to guru.grisoft.com will therefore no longer work.

So, does anyone know if there is alternate location where we can at least update to the very last available update to 7.5? Is anyone working on making AVG Free v8.0 a part of UBCD4Win?

The "config" function in the plugin, as well as the update when running UBCD4W, both work fine. The updates as far as virus defs are still avail -- however updates to the software (bug fixes etc) and any online support have ended.
