sigh... my typing is awful :S **edits title* Can someone help me with a BSOD

Hi, Ive been having the same bsod message for about 4 weeks now. Ive been trying everything to fix it. ( It pops up when im trying to boot my pc, so i cant even get to windows.)

Now is there a way for ubcdwin to help me with this problem. I was hoping to copy the files that i cant afford to lose and then reformat. But I didnt know If Ubcdwin like UBCD had its own boot menu where you can work from or if you have to boot it and then go into windows to use it.

IF it does have it's own menu that boots right when you put in the cd, Im not getting it. It says loading Ultimate Boot CD for windows...

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Then once the white bar gets done it starts booting windows.

jbow,

Hopefully this will help some. You may actually be able to get into Windows and copy your files from Safe Mode if you haven't tried this yet..

Safe Mode
Restart your computer.
Tap repeatedly the F8 key after the Computer startup test screen (POST) is done.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Menu then press Enter.

Hopefully that will get it, but since you've been trying for some time.. you have probably already tried that.

UBCD4Win requires that you make a bootable CD from a known good Computer using your Windows XP CD to help create it. Once created, you would be able to copy your files as you are wishing. The first place to start is finding a good computer that fits the requirements which can be found here http://www.ubcd4win.com/faq.htm#require . I would recommend that you use their new Config tool to help you build it, the information on where to get it and how are found here http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=3098&hl=

The Config tool will make this almost painless.. it will take you step by step in creating an ISO image that can be burned to a CD when done. More information an burning the CD can be found in this http://www.ubcd4win.com/howto.htm ... you will find that info about half way down the page.

Good luck ... hope that helps get you started.

If you don't have a lan... then you will still be able to use it since it doesn't require this.

It also contains CD Burning utilities (which I haven't tried yet by the way, I'm new to it also) and copying to a zip disk shouldn't be any trouble either since it has several Explorer like utilities as well as other methods to copy with.

While you will find slightly different things in it vs Windows.. I think you will be comfortable with it once you see it... it looks and works very much just like Windows if you ask me only with minor differences.

starting Ultimate Boot CD for windows

and the white bar loads, is it supposed to have the

microsoft windows xp with the windows logo

and they have the blue bars below going across the screen?

or is the cd not working and windows is just loading?

because i get to there and like just with booting windows i get the bsod half way through that.

If you are seeing the message.... "starting Ultimate Boot CD for windows" like you say.. then it isn't booting from your hard drive and you have other issues that are probably driver related. I should have seen this in your first post that I replied too but had overlooked it...

I"m sorry, I was thinking you meant the BSOD was on your computer itself and I've now lead you in the wrong direction due to my oversite.

I'm afraid that I will have to let the more experienced people help you with this problem since I've got little experience helping with driver issues and the UBCD4Win...

At least I can answer you question about QEMU some... this is a "Virtual Windows" that will let you pretest the ISO that you have created using UBCD4Win. It can let you know if the ISO was created correctly or not and you may use it to familiarize yourself with the features a little also. Since this is a virtual system, there are some things that won't work and it won't let you see if it works with your hardware per se since it only emulates a computer.

Again.. I'm sorry for my oversite... hopefully one of the others more familiar will be able to help. They will likely need to know some system information but I will let them tell you what they need to know.

jbow,

Well, I haven't seen many of them posting today... maybe they just had to have a break.

I can at least mention this, it won't hurt to try it.

There are several posts of systems locking up (I don't recall a BSOD mentioned though), many of them were asked to try pushing the F7 key during the part of the screen that mentions pushing F6 to use a new driver. This then loads the system with a basic type of power saving features.

You may want to at least try that. If it works, they also mentioned the option needed.. now on that you would need to find a post covering that step since I can't remember what they called the mode and the word "F7" is to short to search on.

G'luck with that....

ok, so no such luck.

So just to state again so others know. Is there like a bootable menu that ubcdwin can use like the original ubcd, (its similar to the bios boot menu) IF not, is there anyway to get something likethis for UBCDWIN because i need to be able to copy files. and there is no other way for me to get to windows. In anyform.

-thanks again.
