In the BartPE forum, there's a tweak of growisofs (historically a linux +RW tool) that lets you burn to a live BartPE/XPE/Reatogo DVD+RW or DVD-RAM disc on a single DVD drive system (like say, a laptop) without having to load PE entirely into RAM. (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)
The caveats: must immeadiately reboot PE disc after grow-burn (puppy-linux is the same, no?) and burns at glacial 1.5x PIO mode. My problem is I get this error if I use the UBCD4W drivers . . .

I have followed the thread at 911 & it's an interesting idea. Figuring out what driver is causing the problem might prove to be difficult at best. There are MANY drivers in the package, but most will only activate if you run the build on a system with hardware that matches the drivers.
There have been some issues reported with the driverpacks & we are looking into solutions, but these will take time to compleet. QUESTIONS: Are you running our build or the standard pebuilder setup? Please provide a DETAILED DESCRITPION of EVERY DEVICE attached to the system in question. You can use one of the tools in the project to do this easily, I think SIW has an export to.. (several formats) option that would work nicely. The first drivers I would look at are any by NVIDIA, if you dont need them, remove them for troubleshooting. HOW TO PROCEED: Remove 1 of the base driver folders (NET or SCSIAdaptors) & see if the problem still exists. IF the problem is gone, then it's being created by the pack you removed. Split them into a few groups & add them back one at a time until the error occurs, then split that group into small groups untill you find the device that is causing the issue. |

I've tried only the standard builder thus far (both vanilla BPE and with XPE plugin, i think)

I'll endevor to generate something better when i come back from testing (tomorrow? this weekend for sure) but for now... - An Intel 845PE (ICH4) based Gigabyte (GA845PE Ultra 2), with Intel 100/100 MT Network Connection - 3ware 7506-4LP RAID controller - NVidia GeForce4Ti 4200 I'll follow your suggestions and report back in this sub-fourm; sorry about double posting. |

I'll bet the problem is caused by one of the nvidia drivers. There seems be be issues with NVIDIA using this type of driver pack. Please send me the "Known good" drivers that you are using for any NVIDIA hardware that you use. We need to start comparing these with the ones in the pack & create a set of standard drivers for these devices as none of the nvidia drivers seem to "Play Nice" with each other. I'm not using any video drivers for PE. Just UBCD4W NET and SCSI (mass storage) packages.
Never had much luck with vid drivers in PE, so I stopped trying years ago. I sure would like to be able to control the refresh rate at least... grumble. XPE seems to give me a refresh rate I can live with... but vanilla PE at 800x600 on my 19" monitor has a default 60Hz flicker can drive even the most stoic visual cortex into an epileptic attack. (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) But that's another topic. |

I used default UBCD4Win3 RC7. Some driver are included by default. Growable singlesession DVD does work at a ICH2. Try, disable 3ware 7506 drivers. Which DVD writer do you use? |

"Try, disable 3ware 7506 drivers." - can't! I must use. They don't seem to be the problem, thankfully.
"Which DVD writer do you use?" - LG multi 4163b . . . Device Instance ID in XP is IDE\CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-4163B_______________A100____\5&494505C&0&0.0.0 Noteworthy - PE built with full SCSI package has same DVD-drive Device Instance ID as above; and growisofs doesn't work. Then I try only 3ware7k8k SCSI driver, the DVD-drive's Device Instance ID is different. . . IDE\CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-4163B_______________A100____\334B34393942324A313420362020202020202020 . . . and growisofs works. (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) But I think it's this SATA adapter built into the GA8PE Ultra 2 motherboard... System has no SATA drives and the SATA controller is "disabled" in the BIOS. I've tried both +RW and -RAM media, and only difference is +RW wears out FAST! I've tried both vanilla PE and XPE/HWPnP/INFcache and hardware IDs are the same. I've tried various (and none) NIC drivers - same growisofs results. Here's a comparison of non-/working "devcon hwids * > out" 's Left Side - all SCSI drivers - growisofs fails Right Side - only 3ware7k8k SCSI driver - growisofs works.

Which UBCD4win version do you use? Did you include a driver pack? Wich driver pack did you include? Did you connect LG1463 to ICH4? I doubt, you did LG4163 connected to 3ware 7506. Did you?

Problem solved. (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/worthy.gif)
Yes, the issue was the ... (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wall.gif) Intel 82801xx_uata drivers. They're not needed for XPsp2 slipstreamed, which is the source for my PE builds. When I leave them out - growisofs works. (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Which UBCD4win version do you use? Wasn't. I was using just plain PEBuilder. Did you include a driver pack? Wich driver pack did you include? I was trying v1.8 (and v1.7) UBCD4W NET and SCSI packages. Did you connect LG1463 to ICH4? Yes, as secondary master on Main IDE controller (Intel 82801DB). The MB has another IDE controller too (Promise PDC20276).. could've tried that one in hind-sight. (IMG:http://www.ubcd4win.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/excl.gif) So my big question is: Are there any more drivers that should be removed when using XPsp2 source? Here is devcon output from both the working and non-working systems for comparison.
