So, I've been trying to reformat my PC (for reasons of performance like I have in the past). OS XP. After booting to CD, shortly after the volume driver is being installed in setup, I get this error: "the file partmgr.sys is corrupt, error 47872 line 5882 at d: \xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c." It then prompts me to press any key to reboot. What the freak do I do?

I'm just so furious. I've gone through the trouble of backing up EVERYTHING. Please, please, please give me any suggestions! I've posted on like... 5 forums already, haha. No response.

Copy your original xp-cd on a other pc and try again.
Or try to clean your original xp-cd.

Sometimes it also helps to just blow away the first part of the hard drive with something like DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) or BCWipePD. That way if any bit of the previous partition table had bad entries or was corrupted its now totally erased.

Cheers
