QUOTE (RShea @ Aug 26 2005, 06:41 PM)
I have followed the instructions for the creation of a c:\PublicAV folder and moved the contents of the Public AV into that folder. If I run the customupdate batch file, it seems to complete without errors. However I just noticed the files in the scan folder are still showing the date of Jun 28th. That in my case was the last download I did of the PublicAV from nyquil-kids web site. So 2 questions on the batch files. First is any capabilities to create a log file with any errors in the C:\PublicAV folder? And second question, since the downloads seem to work, the ISO creation is working (date of the ISO is yesterday, and the Wintools directory is in the ISO, what would the trouble be with the McAfee sdat, definitions not getting extracted to the scan folder, any ideas or clues? Thought I had it working.
*

I did some more investigation on this update problem. It seems the files are coming down and when the sdat is run it reports that "no valid product available for update is found" type of message. If I download the sdatxxx.zip and manually extract the dat files into the directory it does work. Anyone else experience this error message?
stidyup
If you try to run the exe file that's the message you will get if you haven't got McAfee installed as it's trying to update the product.

The /e switch works even if you haven't got McAfee installed, as this is how my own McAfee plugin works on my PE CD.

UBCD Updater

UBCD Updater

Ultimate Boot CD is a freeware tool that contains several DOS base AV scanner. However these scanners are usually out of date when you download the file, for them to be effective they need keeping upto date.

The UBCD Updater is a bat file that will download the updates for McAfee, F-Prot, AntiVir and Avast and rebuild the ISO for you. Unfortunately due to how AVG update there product I'm unable to offer a update for there scanner.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will test this switch and see if it helps.
Some other issues that have come up that I am investigating, just reporting these as a FYI:
I also noticed that the version of latest.exe under my McAfee is not the version of the sdatxxxx.exe that was just downloaded under the batch file, it is still the June 05 that was on the disk from nyqil-kid.

I also attempted to install MS Anti-Spyware Beta software for the disk and the version of the beta is expired. Microsoft now requires you to go through the genunine software wizard before downloading. So a script to update this may not work.
stidyup
Hi RShea

I've just tested the bat file by renaming mcafee update to lates1.exe and the MS spyware install file to install1.exe

Both files downloaded correctly, I uninstalled MS Antispyware and installed the new version and it installed and loaded fine no error messages about it being an out of date beta.

I'd suggest either deleting or renaming the 2 files in question and see if this then gives the results your expecting.

Seems like there are quite a lotto update...
Will start working on the Win32 version as well.
Probably be ready next week becos I still have quite some reports to rush out.

stidyup has been doing a great job with the content ofthe custom CD. Keep it up!

Meanwhile on my side, I had been very busy with some Wifi auditing projects so I might not be able to catch up on the win32 version yet if anyone is still using it...
It came to me as a point I wonder whether its worth going on or not since the batch file now primary works and mine seems likea duplicated work.

However, I had continued on with the Lite version which I now I had renamed Cerberus Antivirus Lite (I hope you guys dun mind). The new ISO (14MB ZIP) based ius ready and contains both Mcafee and P-prot as the DOS scanning software.

I hadalso modded some of the core system files and boot image in order to make changes to the selection to choose which scanner to use. Because of the difficulty in using hte previous updater (believe me I know) I am going to revamped it into a single EXE files which automatically unpacks the necessary files and do all the work with just 1 request to the ISO file. The Updater will be ready soon.

Meanwhile here is the ISO for Cerberus AV Lite 2.0

Indeed he has...

I fix many "pwn3d" boxes with the PAVCD. Here's a suggestion: I use Stidy's batch file to update, and then I manually add the current full versions of AutoPatcher XP and AutoPatcher 2K to the WinTools folder. Some of the download locations change for these, but automation would be a nice addition to the batch file. One could even add the "Unofficial 98SE Service Pack" for those machines.

I personally like keeping all of my "silver bullets" in one gun (or on one quickly and easily updatable CD...)

Thanks for all your hard work...
stidyup
Update to how bat files work. No more files needed in root folder, but you need to make sure the extracted folder is called PAVUpdat. CPavPublicAVupdate.bat is hard coded and needs the extracted files in C:\PublicAV

D&DPavPublicAVupdate.bat will allow you to drag and drop the folder location via Windows Explorer. Any folder path will do providing it doesn't have spaces or is excessively long.

The folder PAVUpdat must be in the same folder as all the other root folders of the CD.

You've saved me twice in two days. Thanks for the update files for PublicAV. This CD was (and still is) awesome for the first step in cleaning up someone's computer. The procdeure listed is easy as pie!

Hi All,
Firstly, thanks for the great utility, I used the public antivirus Cd for a while and was disappointed to see it discontinued, this updater will save me from hours of tedious manual updates.
I am having a strange problem with it though, I have all the files in the right places as per instructions, I run the custom batch file and it seems to be going through the instructions ok. It seems to download the updates and creates the new directories, such as Win Tools etc. It then creates the ISO ok. My problem is that the next time I run it, it doesn’t seem to update some files. For example, AVG downloads ok - but when I run it, it hasn’t been updated to the most recent version. The first time I ran the utility it downloaded the 24/08 release, AVG have updated their program since but the ISO I created today still has the 24/08 release on it. DO I need to start with a fresh copy of the cd each time I run the utility—or can the program update a previously updated AVCD?
Thanks for any help.

Hi brooksp

Thanks for the feedback, download the bat file again I've updated the script. It was down to AVG changing the file name the bat file was looking for AVG70free*.exe and the latest update was AVG71... so the updater wouldn't download it.

I've now fixed this so it just looks for AVG7*.exe that way any further increments should be picked up.

McAfee has changed the latest.exe so it won't extract - it looks for a SDStbRes.dll file.

I downloaded the 6MB zipped daily .dat from here: ftp://ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x

I then did a manual extract and replace to get the updated scan files into the PAVCD "scan" folder. Mainly because I am not bright enough to edit the batch file to do it for me.

Good eveing everyone,
I just downloaded the latest version of PublicAV updater. When using it I get this error for Mcafee:

FTP cannot enumerate files:
200 Type set to A.
500 'PPORT 68,67,226,30,19,137': command not understood
500 'LPRT 6,16,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,108,203,27,119,1,0,0,0,2,7,75': command not under
stood

And this one for Norton updates:

FTP cannot enumerate files:
200 Type set to A.
500 'PPORT 68,67,226,30,19,137': command not understood
500 'LPRT 6,16,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,108,203,27,119,1,0,0,0,2,7,75': command not under
stood

Also, one of the AV scanners won't update either, namely DRWeb, and I have been trying all day.

Everything else is okay as far as i can tell.

Thanks

Nathan

Hi

I've just tested the file and McAfee, Norton and Drweb all downloaded. The only suggestions I can make are it was either server load at the time or it was some firewall/security setting on your PC.

I've also just updated the bat file with the latest location for PC wizard which is now V1.67 and added syncback to replace cbackup.

Will the update bat file be updated for microsoft antispyware being changed to windows defender with a different file name to download from Microsoft's site? It's now windowsdefender.msi instead of microsoftantispywareinstall.exe.

I would also like to suggest that McAfee Stinger and MS Malicious Software Removal Tool be added to the CD and added to the bat file for updates.

I would also like to thank everyone involved in this CD and creating and maintaining the update bat files. I use this CD quite often and I think it is a very good tool to have.

Thanks,
Kevin

Been having the same issue for a few weeks. I've been doing the same thing to get past it. I also ran into the same thing with Norton. Stidyup answered an earlier post that I sent regarding the same issue. At that time, his solution worked for me - wait a few days and try again. The server load was high. However, since I still can't get to it, I wonder what's going on.

I've just ran the bat file now and McAfee downloaded fine.

ftp://ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/superdat/intel/

This is the ftp location it's looking for. All I can think of is that it must be some sort of firewall or security software at your end blocking download.exe

Although it is possible that the ftp site was offline at the time, my only suggestion is to try the ftp location when you get the error message and double check it is online. If it is then its more likely some security settings in your firewall etc.... causing the problem.

Thanks. It was also the weekend, so the site may have been down or under high demand. I tried using the FTP in IE to access it as well.

I'll try it again within the next couple of nights and see. I haven't changed any settings on either my router or the computer I build the PAVCD on, and it had worked fine as recently as a week ago.

Anyway, thanks for checking.

Good morning everyone,
I'm still having issues downloading from Mcafee and TrendMicro so I'm manually updating the sections that get stuck. In piping the output to a text file, I found that the section for WinsockXPFix was having issues because both links are dead. I have found two other links that still have the exe file directly. Change this entry:

if not exist %PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\WinsockXPFix.exe %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://www.aero.und.edu/HelpDesk/techservi...insockXPFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/WinsockXPFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\

to this:

if not exist %PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\WinsockXPFix.exe %PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/WinsockXPFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://www.comptutor.net/files/WinsockFix.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\TCP-IP\winsockfix\

this new fix worked for me.

More later if I find any more dead links.
nwgray
Okay, I'll post all the stuff I find this time:

1. I don't know if my bat file got corrupted, but you need to add this line:

if not exist Hosts mkdir Hosts

at the end of the section that checks/creates the dirs right after the Norton anti-virus download

and then cut this section from above teh Norton section:

Echo Updating Host's File
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.zip /update /output:%PublicAV%\Security\Hosts\

to just below the dir creation section

2. MS Malware removal tool has a new version so change this line:

Echo Updating MS Malicious Software Removal Tool
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/a...90830-V1.15.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%/security/Winremtl

to this:

Echo Updating MS Malicious Software Removal Tool
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/a...90830-V1.17.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%/security/Winremtl

3. Spydefense has been purchased or whatever by everest labs. The new line should be:

Echo Updating Spydefense
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://spydefense.everest-labs.qarchive.or...wnload49282.exe /output:%PublicAV%\Spyware\spydefense\SpyDefense.exe

4. KASFX.exe is one more level down; should now be:

Echo Updating KASFX
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\download http://www.tbgnetworks.com/spyware/Programs/KASFX.exe /update /output:%PublicAV%\WinTools\AVScan\KASFX\KASFX.EXE

(had to add Programs to the path)

5. the ftp site for drweb-cureit is hanging and I'm still working on getting it to auto update.

6.AVG Free - I get this error when running the bat file:

D:\PublicAV\PAVUpdat>d:\PublicAV\PAVUpdat\download ftp://ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/70free/setup/avg
*.exe /update /newest /output:d:\PublicAV\WinTools\InstallAV\AVG\avg7free.exe

Maybe ftp was busy?

6. Data Recovery has bad link. The line should now be:

Echo Downloading DataRecovery
%PublicAV%\PAVUpdat\Download http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/DataRecovery_EN.zip /update /output:%PublicAV%\Wintools\FileRec\datarec\DataRec.zip
%PublicAV%\pavupdat\unzip -j -o -d %PublicAV%\WinTools\FileRec\datarec %PublicAV%\WinTools\FileRec\datarec\DataRec.zip

Apparently, the tokiwa.tomato.ne.jp server is down or gone.

7. The Antivir ftp site is timing out as well. I'll keep trying because I can see the files in my browser and can copy them from there so I know the files are okay.

At least for today, I have to manually update the following:

Mcafee, Norton, Trend Micro's lpt.zip, dr-web cureit, and Antivir.

That's it for now.

Thx to stidyup for the continued help to all of us still using this.
